A special dinner party
I was involved with creating a number of interesting items for a dinner being held by Media24 and organised by Clarisse Coetzee. The event was held at Babylonstoren in Franschhoek. All the guests received a small gift which was either a paper flower rosette or a bow tie that I made from newspaper. Additionally I also made 100 metres of bunting from newspaper and ribbon to string between the trees - unfortunately the weather did play along so it went inside over the table which worked just as well.
The best element I thought where the old fashioned newspaper boy pop-up place cards - I used an old fashioned type writer font for the names. The rolled books also work incredibly well for holding the menus and table numbers.
Clarisse Coetzee was the organiser of this event and as per usual it all went brilliantly - thank you for involving me again Clarisse - it is always a pleasure to work with you on these creative evenings. Clarisse's details for any event organising clarissecoetzee (at) gmail.com

The Fringe Arts in the V&A Waterfront
I popped in at The Fringe Arts in the Alfred Mall down in the Waterfront yesterday. The shop is looking great and really is a breath of fresh air among all the Leopard print and Ostrich eggs. Well done T&C and thank you for giving my book artworks such a wonderful spot.

New work - available at the Fringe Arts
I have continued working with two of my favourite things - the first are the leaping buck sketch and the second, "Why on earth would you want to be like everyone else?"
I seem to be meditating on this phrase rather a lot lately and I keep wondering why we are we all obsessed with fitting a prescribed norm? Or what we assume to be the 'norm' at least. So I write and make it over and over in different works.
The Leaping buck are lazer printed onto 100% recycled card and then I alter them as the mood takes me - sometimes I sew, sometimes I paint - it all just depends on how I feel.

Jack of Diamonds
I picked up another card today on the street - a Jack of Diamonds - it's an old card that is not plastic coated and has a rather lovely papery feel to it.
PATIENCE
One of the greater things in life; one must learn to wait for what is coming to one. All things happen, given the right place and the right opportunity

Imagine if your dad had sent you this letter
An excerpt from a letter written by F. Scott Fitzgerald to his daughter at summer camp one year

Things to worry about:
Worry about courage
Worry about Cleanliness
Worry about efficiency
Worry about horsemanship
Worry about. . .
Things not to worry about:
Don't worry about popular opinion
Don't worry about dolls
Don't worry about the past
Don't worry about the future
Don't worry about growing up
Don't worry about anybody getting ahead of you
Don't worry about triumph
Don't worry about failure unless it comes through your own fault
Don't worry about mosquitoes
Don't worry about flies
Don't worry about insects in general
Don't worry about parents
Don't worry about boys
Don't worry about disappointments
Don't worry about pleasures
Don't worry about satisfactions
Things to think about:
What am I really aiming at?
How good am I really in comparison to my contemporaries in regard to:
(a) Scholarship
(b) Do I really understand about people and am I able to get along with them?
(c) Am I trying to make my body a useful instrument or am I neglecting it?
